Fall is right around the corner (well actually not until September 23rd, but once Labor Day hits we think fall) and if you are like most of us, you probably tidied up your apartment this summer, but haven’t done a deep clean since the spring. The change of season is a good time to do some deep cleaning. Here are some tips for fall deep cleaning for your kitchen.
√ Remove rugs, towels, curtains and appliances.
√ Throw washable items into your washer or bring them to a local laundromat.
√ Clean kitchen appliances thoroughly, this includes blender, kitchen tools and holders.
√ Dry sweep or vacuum the floors before you clean them. This will pick up dirt, dust and hair.
√ Clean the floors with a mop or a sponge, move appliances if safe and clean under the appliance.
√ Run the dishwasher by adding 2 cups of vinegar to the bottom and turning your machine on. Stop the dishwasher mid cycle so the vinegar can set; after a 1/2 hour turn the dishwasher back on.
√ Clean the cabinets with a de-greasing product that is safe for your cabinets or with vinegar and a bit of de-greasing liquid soap.
√ Wipe down the doors and the door knobs.
√ Empty and clean the refrigerator; get rid of expired items or items that won’t use.
√ Clean the faucet, paying close attention to creases (you can use floss to get in those areas). Remove the nozzle or clean it with vinegar by placing a plastic bag with vinegar in it overnight.
√ Clean the drains with a drain cleaner or ½ cup of baking soda followed by ½ cup of vinegar (let it stand for 10 minutes) and then pour hot water down the sink.
√ De-clutter your kitchen. Go through your cabinet and organize and throw away things you don’t use.
