When you need Soul Food, you really NEED Soul food and if you haven’t tried it yet, you don’t know what you are missing. Eating Soul Food is a feel good experience, you eat with your hands, you don’t talk much, just a lot of “mm’s” and you share an almost religious experience, albeit a quiet one, with your friends and family or other diners. All that and we haven’t even mentioned ingredients yet.

If you want some of that feel good food, check these Soul Food restaurants near your North Hollywood apartment.

Sweety Pies No Ho is located at 5230 Lankershim Blvd in a converted train car. They serve great soul food, including fried chicken and fish, brisket, collards, sticky mac and cheese, fried corn, sweet potatoes, peach and pear cobblers, smoked turkeys and more. They are closed on Mondays, don’t be surprised if you see a celebrity of two eating a delicious soulful meal at Sweety Pies. PS, it is a bit pricy, but delicious.

I don’t know who Sweet Mo is, but he is serving up some of LA’s best Soul Food Y’All at Sweet Mo’s Soul Food Cafe. You have to try the fried chicken and catfish, mac n cheese and smothered pork chops. If we don’t have you heading out your apartment door already, how about ooey, gooey banana butter cake, corn bread, collard greens or yams. They do have a vegetarian platter, but this is not healthy food, well not the kind that is good for your heart, but it sure is good for your Soul Y’All.

They are located at 5643 Lankershim Blvd Los Angeles, CA and are closed Sunday and Monday.
