If you are looking for a unique way to spend Father’s Day, but don’t want to venture too far from your North Hollywood apartment; why not make a visit to the J. Paul Getty Museum.

The museum is named after J. Paul Getty, an American Industrialist who founded Getty Oil. The museum is a perfect way to treat Dad and the family to great works of art, sculptures, architecture and the arts.

The art collection is displayed in four pavilions which house an impressive collection:

The North Pavilion has paintings from famous artists dating up to 1600, as well as medieval and Renaissance sculptures.

The South Pavilion features 18th century paintings and the majority of the Museum’s European decorative arts collection. This exhibit is truly awe inspiring.

The East Pavilion features 17th century Baroque art as well as sculptures and decorative arts.

The West Pavilion includes sculptures and 19th century paintings.

Through Father’s Day (June 21), the special exhibit is entitled “Renaissance Splendors of the Northern Italian Courts”.

The architecture and gardens are truly breathtaking, with great views and outdoor sculptures it is hard to see it all in one day.

The Getty (as it is called by local art enthusiasts) also offers activities for children and adults alike (Gem Carving is currently being offered), a great children’s shop and on the 20th they offer a sketching class entitled Drawing from Antiquity – the Roman Gardens.

Each day there are tours and on the 20th Shannon and the Clams will be performing a gritty garage-punk inspired show.

There is a world class restaurant, some more casual cafes, food carts and a picnic area.

General Admissions is free, but parking is $15 or $10 after 5:00 and the Museum is accessible from public transportation.

The Getty Museum in LA is a perfect way to spend Father’s Day – enjoy.
